My sister Meredith's darling home is on the market! See the listing here for more photos and information. I know they are sad to leave this home and their beloved friends and neighbors...but look out Austin, here come the Gentners! xo

domestic-construction: grounded

It would take the swell stylings of my favorite design duo- domestic-construction- to get me blogging again! I'm saving my pennies for one of their new floor mats called grounded. The next best thing for those of us unable to have the girls create one of their exquisite custom installations in our own homes! The mats are digitally printed reproductions of Trish and Maureen's incredible paper-cuts on skid-proof rubber backings. Just peachy! xo  Find them here!

I ran across these sweet home views of shopkeeper, Shevie Moyle on Flickr awhile back.  Her home/workshop and brick-and-mortar vintage store, Fine and Dandy are located in Cornwall, UK. No online shop, yet... (keeping fingers crossed!) But check out more of her yummy collections and views of her home and shop on her blog, Paperdolly. xo
I love her pea green chair and Cath Kidston fabrics.

Finding a home sweet home...

Well...now that our home is clean and polished and on the market, our attention turns to finding a home in Indianapolis. We'll fly there this Wednesday for a ten day home search marathon.  My dream (and luckily, he's obliging...xo) is to find a mid-century modern gem like the ones I find at my new favorite haunt, AtomicIndy- a blog dedicated to all things Mid-Century Midwest Modern. I have my heart set on a finding a one-story ranch (a basement would be great!), tall windows, an airy open floor plan, and  a killer limestone fireplace. Granite counter tops need not apply! If anyone has ANY information about ANY interesting properties in the NE Indianapolis area- Please do let me know!  xo

Artist at Home: Nathan Abels

"artists", "exhibition", "home design", "painting"Katie Runnels6 Comments
I'm very happy to share a few peeks inside the home of my good friend and fellow SCAD grad-artist, Nathan Abels and his wife, Lorna Cochrane.  The couples combined love of art and vintage treasures along with their effortless style is apparent in the thoughtfully curated historic apartment they share in Denver, Colorado. Luckily, some of these photos were taken before a few works of Nathan's were shipped off to galleries-so you'll see a glimpse or two of his fine art work. (Nathan's work is currently on exhibit at Rule Gallery in Denver through March 20.) {website} {flickr} {blog}
The building's charming exterior.

Nathan and Lorna have an ever-growing collection of artwork that they have either
purchased, found, or traded over the years. The painting over the sofa is an original
by Denver artist,  Kay Tuttle. The sofa is from Room & Board and the coffee
table is vintage Lane.

A view of the other side of the living room reveals a large original painting, Overpass
by Nathan. The bench was a vintage find and the credenza against the wall is from BluDot.

Lorna arranged this artful still life that features more of the couple's art collections- a piece by Kay Tuttle (behind the candlestick) and a resin antler sculpture by Lauri Lynnxe Murphy

The dining room wall entertains a salon style grouping of interesting images from a David Bowie album cover and a vintage book cover to original artwork and prints- see the detail here. The table is another great piece from Blu-Dot and the chairs are from Room & Board.

Vintage no-maintenance guard dog was a flea market find.

An old hand-made ship from a Silverton, Colorado antique shop.

The bedroom is serene in a wash of white. The painting is an original acrylic on panel by Nathan called, Dénouement. Nathan was honored with the title, Emerging Artist of The Year for 2009 by the Denver Post and his work is soon to appear in the juried Western edition of New American Paintings!

Meet Lorna and Nathan! Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Kyle Millsap's Mini-Rancho Campo del' Arte

What a treat for me today to share the home/office/hideaway of the crazy talented window dresser, stylist and all-around super-duper shopSCAD Visuals Manager(pant, pant), Kyle Millsap! (I do loves me some Kipper!)
Kyle Millsap with Amy Zurcher at the shopSCAD Holiday Dinner Party last month!

I've gone on about Kyle's incredible work at shopSCAD here before- but was super excited to see updates on his living quarters- which, when I saw it last a few months back- was sad and bare. The gray days are over for this sweet little (and I do mean little-15' x 18' to be exact!) cottage in the heart of Savannah's quaint Ardsley Park!

Bitsy greets guests at the top of the stairway entrance to the apartment. Ok,Baby painting by Tim Wirth- an artist whose work Kyle has already accumulated a most impressive collection!

At the top of the stairs we get our first view of Kyle's cool boyscout kitsch collections of flags, pennants and camp gear. A collection he comes by honestly...Kyle has graduated through the ranks, from Tiger Cub to Eagle Scouts- and he's still a registered Scouter! He mounted an apartment-friendly peg board along the far wall to house his ever-expanding art collection.

Kyle keeps his dandy footwear in sight and at the ready for walkin' his Dogie.

Bitsy rests her sweet self on the the perfect Ikea couch solution for this small space. Kyle found his sweet little coffee table on the side of the road. The colorful handmade quilt over the back of the couch was made by his Great-Grandmother Patrick. The hanging flag pennant was made by Kyle's good friend, Haylie Bird Waring.

I spy some art favorites up there- like Jay Schmetz, Yoswadi Krutklom, and a big screenprint by Jen Jenkins. Can you find the taxidermied blowfish lantern?!

The office corner with his antique desk (dated 1903 in pencil) found at Habersham Antiques in Savannah. This lucky cowboy has a flat screen in his pup tent! Yup, there's another Tim Wirth painting!

Kyle scavenged the wood crates from Keller's Flea Market for $5. each to create a cozy and oddball modern headboard with storage for all his loot! The vintage chenille blanket was found in Little Rock, Ar. The handmade pillow is by Rebecca Davison- available, of course, at shopSCAD!
So nice, I show it twice!

Kyle's Kitchenette- compact storage for his swamp-seed, whistle-berries & eatin' irons. (A former closet and I'm to tell you...a work in progress. Looks perfect to me!)

The layout (them's tight quarters!)
I'm so impressed, Kyle! Thank you for sharing!
Visit Kyle at shopSCAD in Savannah! xo
